Town hall rejects Paguera and Santa Ponsa complaints

Calvia mayor, Alfonso Rodríguez, denies that Magalluf is being favoured. | Archive

On Sunday, the Bulletin reported that hoteliers in Paguera and Santa Ponsa were "laying into" the town hall because of its tourism promotion strategy. The presidents of the respective hoteliers' associations, Antonio Mayol and Antonio Roses, had sent a letter to the mayor, Alfonso Rodríguez, in which they suggested that Magalluf was being favoured over other resorts, that promotion was a "strategic error" liable to cause confusion (because of the use of Calvia as a tourism brand) and that investment in regenerating Magalluf was to the detriment of the other resorts.

Unsurprisingly, the town hall has taken issue with these complaints. It "cannot understand" the hoteliers' arguments, when it is working on behalf of all the citizenship and all the areas of Calvia. The complaints, it argues, are "not justified".

The town hall adds that it wants all the municipal resorts to be of the same quality that Magalluf is attaining, but notes that it has to be taken into account that efforts can't all be done at the same time.
