The countdown is under way for the British Benevolent Fund charity reception which takes place this Thursday at the Finca Son Mir (Cami Vell de Sineu). The British ambassador to Spain and Andorra, Simon Manley, and best-selling author Lord Jeffrey Archer will be attending. Michelin star chef, Marc Fosh will be doing the catering.
All proceeds from the event go to the British Benevolent Fund (BBF), which is one of the oldest English-speaking charities in Spain with records dating back to at least 1933. It operates with the support of its Honorary President, HM Ambassador to Spain. It is run by an independent chairman and committee all of whom know Spain and its people and are very familiar with the issues British citizens face, be they tourists or long-term residents.
The BBF works in conjunction with the British Consulates and charitable organisations to provide financial support and other assistance to British nationals who find themselves in financial distress in Spain. The BBF became a registered charity in Spain in 2016, previously being a fund under the auspices of the British Embassy.
One of the highlights of the reception will be a charity auction which will be conducted by Lord Archer.
Over the years the BBF has helped people suffering from Alzheimer’s, mental health problems, cancer, learning disabilities, stroke and heart attack victims to name but a few. It has also helped many without any health issues who find themselves isolated and without support owing to circumstances beyond their control. Whilst the committee is based in Madrid, assistance is provided throughout Spain via partner organisations.
