Jaime Lladó, the director of Tito's nightclub in Palma was arrested by the National Police yesterday morning. Tito's is one of the clubs that belongs to Grupo Cursach.

The arrest is within the framework of the ongoing investigation into police corruption in Palma and Calvia and links to businesspeople with nightlife interests. The head of Grupo Cursach, Tolo Cursach, was arrested two weeks ago and ordered to be detained in prison on 3 March. Tito's was one of the establishments which was raided by National Police officers on the instructions of the investigating judge, Manuel Penalva.

The judge and the anti-corruption prosecutor Miguel Ángel Subirán yesterday called a former head of Palma police, Joan Mut, in for questioning. Mut's position as head of police was not renewed by Palma town hall and he was latterly suspended indefinitely August by Palma's councillor for public safety, Angelica Pastor. Also suspended was Antoni Morey, who replaced Mut. This followed the announcement of "precautionary measures" against both that were filed by the prosecution service.

Mut, only answering questions from his lawyer, denied having shown favours to Grupo Cursach establishments and insisted that he had been impartial. The judge's report refers to evidence from a police officer who said that he was reprimanded by Mut during a meeting also attended by Tolo Sbert, the Grupo Cursach senior executive who was arrested at the same time as Cursach. This reprimand related to an intervention made by the officer at Megapark in Arenal.

In addition, the report contains a statement from another witness who said that Mut was present at regular meals at Cursach's finca in Felanitx.
