Verdicts in respect of the Nóos trial will be given today at 12.00. The Balearic High Court reported yesterday that notifications will be sent to all parties at midday and that the full text will be published at the court at the same time.
The judge responsible for drafting the rulings, Samantha Romero, has now completed the task for which she had asked an extension until March. Since November, she has been working exclusively on the verdicts, the trial itself having finished in June last year.
Princess Cristina, who was prosecuted by Manos Limpias rather than the state, faced a call of eight years in prison, while the prosecution service called for a sentence of nineteen and a half years for her husband, Iñaki Urdangarin. His partner in the Instituto Nóos, Diego Torres, faces sixteen and a half years. The anti-corruption prosecutor, Pedro Horrach, did not change his sentencing request for either of them, as neither showed repentance during the trial.
The prosecution reduced its demand in respect of the former Balearic president, Jaume Matas, from eleven years to five years after Matas paid 900,000 euros by way of reparation.
There were thirteen others on trial who face sentences from one year to eleven years. Of those facing the shortest sentences, there would be the possibility of paying fines instead.
