Three people suspected of having stolen money from twelve hire cars at the Colomer and Atalaia mirador viewing points in Formentor have been arrested by the Guardia Civil.
An investigation found that one of the three would hide in undergrowth some kilometres from where the thefts were to be committed. Equipped with binoculars and a mobile, the other two would be alerted if there was any police presence. Having broken into cars, they would take only money. Removing other items might have compromised them in the event that they were stopped by police.
Guardia officers were able to apprehend all three - one at the surveillance point, the other two at the mirador - while they were in the process of committing another offence.
All three have criminal histories and between them have more than a hundred charges for similar crimes.
