The Majorca Chamber of Commerce says that the airports authority Aena has provided no data about the financial performance of airports in the Balearics and other regions since 2014. It accuses Aena of hiding the information.

Its president, José Luis Roses, believes that this is no coincidence, given that there is the imminent prospect of further privatisation of Aena. Under this, the national government's share would fall to a minority of 40% rather than the 51% majority it currently holds.

Up to 2014, Aena published data for all airports and showed the results for turnover, investment and profit. This is the last information available. Roses suggests that by not supplying the information for 2015 (or indeed 2016) for Son Sant Joan, Ibiza and Mahon, it is a "clear strategy" of creating fewer problems from a regional government which is advocating co-management of airports. (Other regions want this as well, notably the Canaries.)

For its part, Aena says that it publishes economic and financial information that it is obliged to under stock exchange rules. Other information, defined as confidential, is covered by a law of 2014. This doesn't have to be issued if it might be detrimental to the economic and trading interests of the company.

Regional transport minister Marc Pons observes that general interests should be given priority over private ones. The government, he reiterates, is pressing for co-management of the airports and for maximum transparency in their management.

Palma's Son Sant Joan has been one of the three most profitable airports in the Aena network since 2011 (generally, the most profitable in fact). Aena is currently investing over one hundred million euros in the airport.
