Someone in Palma has got a very impressive early Christmas present - a 29,377,167 euros present, the jackpot in Friday's Euromillions lottery. One of the owners of the lottery establishment in the calle Antoni Frontera was sent a message at just after half ten on Friday night by the head of the lotteries' association in the Balearics to tell him that his office had registered the largest lottery prize ever in the city.
Antoni and co-owner Lorenzo Martín celebrated this by having bottles of cava when they opened the office yesterday morning. They didn't, however, know who the winner was. They believe it is an individual better as they consulted the clubs and syndicates who regularly play the lottery and none of them had the winning ticket. They also suspect it was won with a lucky-dip ticket, as 90% of tickets they sell are lucky-dips.
Lorenzo reckoned that the Euromillions win will give hope to others in the neighbourhood and is therefore looking forward to a better than ever Christmas lottery.
