Calvia police were involved in almost 8,000 actions during the summer policing campaign and made 101 arrests. Most of the reports - 3,688 - were for violations of the police and good governance bylaw. Among these, the greatest number were for illegal street/beach selling (2,158). There were 800 for massages on the beach and 172 for street drinking.
There were 1,211 reports of public disorder, fighting and assault, 422 for contraventions of the bylaw on acoustic contamination (noise, in other words), and 42 people tested positive for alcohol while driving and a further eleven for drugs.
In announcing the figures for the summer, the chief of the police, Justino Trenas, praised the important and excellent work by officers and the close liaison with the Guardia Civil. He added that the foundations for a new model of policing have been laid. A new organisational set-up is allowing police to operate in an ever more local fashion. He also expressed satisfaction with the bylaw on co-existence under which the police have new means of prohibiting certain conduct.
Various distinctions were handed out, such as those to officers Antonio Lozano and Amable Serrano for saving the life of a citizen by practising cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Mayor Alfonso Rodríguez congratulated all those who received distinctions and stressed how well-prepared the local force is.
