Majorca's biggest fair - Inca's Dijous Bo - takes place next week (Thursday, 17 November). It demands a hefty police presence, and the local security board has met to discuss arrangements. The importance and scale of the event was evident from those on the board: Evelio Antich, the general secretary of the national government's delegation in the Balearics, the Guardia Civil's colonel in chief in the Balearics, Jaume Barceló, as well as the mayor, Virgilio Moreno, and senior local police officers.
The Guardia, coordinating with local police, will start its main operation at 20.00 on Wednesday (Dimecres Bo). It will continue until 06.00 on Friday morning. More than one hundred Guardia officers will be involved.
The "excellent coordination" between the Guardia Civil and local police was highlighted by Antich and Moreno. A coordination committee was established in May and has now met seven times. Antich said that the Inca security board is an example for other boards to follow. Its preventive measures and preparation are bearing fruit, he noted.
Around 200,000 people are expected to descend on Inca next week, and the Guardia will be keeping a special watch out for pickpockets and the sale of alcohol to minors. The local police will be working side by side with the Guardia in preventing street drinking parties, while it will take charge of traffic: two special parking areas with 800 places are to be created.
