Majorca gets its first autumn snow

The first snow of the autumn in Majorca.

| Palma |

The first snow of autumn has fallen on Majorca's peaks. On Tuesday there was snow down to 1,300 metres on what was the coldest day of autumn. The Aemet meteorology agency says that there was only a small amount of snow but that it was sufficient to give a covering on both Puig de Massanella and Puig Major. Given that it was a working day, not many people were able to enjoy the first snow of the season.

In most parts of Majorca the maximum temperature was between 15 and 17 degrees - three to four degrees lower than normal for the time of year. A week ago the temperature was up to six degrees higher than usual. Minimum temperatures were 1.6C in Serra d'Alfabia and 2.2C in Son Torrella, Escorca. There was rain over much of the island but it was generally minimal. Puerto Pollensa had the most rain - 20.2 litres per square metre.

The weather is due to show a shortlived improvement, with temperatures on Saturday back up to at least 20 degrees. On Sunday, though, they will be down to 17 or 18 degrees.
