Palma's mayor, José Hila, met today with airlines and tour operators at the World Travel Market. The main objective was to look at increasing low-season flights and promoting the city as a winter destination. Talks with British Airways, Jet2, Monarch and Germania were all to do with Palma as a city break, while public relations and fam trips were also discussed with Monarch and Germania.
Monarch is to be involved with a press trip to promote January's Sant Sebastià (Saint Sebastian) fiestas, while Jet2, the airline that is increasing its flights the most, is working on a co-marketing campaign of weekend packages. Earlier this year, Jet2 started flights in the low season, making available 20,400 seats. For this low season there will be 33,600 seats. The town hall suggests that other tour operators are also interested in developing Palma tourist products.
The Palacio de Congresos convention centre having been presented at the fair on Tuesday, proposals for events are coming in. One of them has come from Paul Evans, the membership director of the Institute of Travel & Tourism, who has proposed that the institute's 2018 conference be held at the Palacio.
