The Guardia Civil's foreign tourist service (SATE) in Calvia attended to 7,800 people from 79 different nationalities over the summer season. The SATE service, of which there are others in Majorca, is an operation coordinated by the town hall and the Guardia and has language assistance for anyone needing to make a report to the force.
There were two offices this summer - one in Magalluf and the other in Paguera - both of them with translators. Lieutenant-Colonel Antonio Orantos says that the Magalluf SATE has become a benchmark for others and that it is valued by businesses who recognise that it gives a good image of the resort and helps to make tourists want to return.
Orantos agrees with hoteliers in the resort that the maintenance of public safety was positive this summer. He is also grateful to the hoteliers for the accommodation provided to the reinforcements brought from the mainland, adding his further gratitude to the cooperation shown by the local police and town hall.
Over the summer, various networks engaged in the sale of counterfeit products were broken up, while there was a 6% decrease in the number of burglaries.
Sebastián Darder, president of the Palmanova-Magalluf hoteliers association underlines the good understanding established between the Guardia Civil, local police and hotel security services.
