The FAN Mallorca Shopping complex opened its doors this morning, and this meant the opening of the first Primark store in Majorca. More than 200 workers at the store greeted its first customers, who had queued for hours, with balloons and songs.
Stephen Mullen, the director-general of Primark in Spain and Portugal, cut the ribbon to allow the eager customers to enter. But before cutting the ribbon, he said: "Palma is the best city in the world to live in." He noted that the Palma store is the second largest Primark in Spain behind the one in Madrid's Gran Via. It occupies more than 7,000 square metres on two floors and is the forty-second Primark to open in Spain.
A company statement said that Primark was "very happy" with the opening of the new store and added that Thursday was a "great day" for the company.
FAN Mallorca Shopping, for which more than 190 million euros have been invested, has created 1,500 direct jobs in addition to the 2,400 for its construction. It has more than 120 establishments that are a mix of international and national brands as well as local stores. Five new local operators recently confirmed that they would be opening in the complex. They are Naturalmente Mallorca (decoration), Pieles de Mallorca, fashion store Nicole, Perfumerías Tin Tin and the bakery Horno de Santo Cristo. These join two others that had previously been confirmed - Rillova and Fauna Palma.
Of the international and national brands, there are, among others, H&M, C&A, MediaMarkt, Decathlon, Samsung, Starbucks, Cortefiel, Mango and Pedro del Hierro as well of course as Primark.
