A fire that broke out around 17.00 this afternoon required the evacuation of 800 people from the Hotel Canarios Park in Cala Antena, Calas de Mallorca.
The fire in woods by the hotel was initially given a Level One elevated risk rating because of its proximity to the hotel but was then downgraded to Level Zero at 18.30. By 20.10 it was declared extinguished and had claimed only 0.1 hectares of bush and scrub rather than actual forest.
The fire did affect the hotel, if only slightly. A table, chairs and some towels on a balcony caught fire.
