A 35-year-old man was killed this morning when the lorry he was driving went off the road and turned over on the main road from Porreres to Llucmajor.
The 112 emergency service tweeted that the lorry was of high tonnage and was carrying concrete and that the driver was trapped inside the cab. The Guardia Civil, local police, SAMU061 paramedics attended the scene in addition to firefighters who were required to cut the driver free from the cabin. But there was nothing the paramedics could have done to have saved the man’s life.
The Guardia Civil have opened a full investigation into the cause of the fatal accident.
The accident takes the total number of lives to have been lost on Balearics roads so far this year to 30 - one fewer than during the first half of last year.
Of the 30 fatalities, seven have been aged under 30 and a similar figure over 65, twenty-three being male. Twenty-two fatalities have been in Majorca, five in Ibiza, two in Minorca and just the one in Formentera.
