"Love Majorca. Still can’t catch a good tan even in this weather though," wrote Andy Murray, sharing a cliff-top photo of himself gazing out to sea. Fresh from having won Wimbledon for the second time and supporting the British Davis Cup team in Serbia, Andy Murray is back in Majorca.
The world number two spent ten days training in Majorca back in April ahead of the clay court season getting under way in Madrid. Firstly, he trained in Palma with the then world number eleven, the Canadian Milos Raonic, who went on to be his opponent in the Wimbledon final. The training was on the excellent clay courts at the Palma Sports & Tennis Club with Raonic’s Majorcan coach, Carlos Moya. Then he moved to Manacor for a few days training with Rafael Nadal and his coach, uncle Toni.
Murray is now back in Majorca and posted the Instagram comment quoted above.
His grandmother Shirley today told the Bulletin’s Laura Stadler: "After all the pressure of the French Open and Wimbledon, Andy is in Majorca for a quiet family holiday before it all starts up again.
"He needs a spell to recover, prepare and rest before he goes to the Olympics. After the Olympics he’s got the American Open and Davis Cup, so now he just wants just a peaceful break with Kim and the baby."
Kim and five-month-old Sophia will not be travelling to Brazil because of the Zika virus. However, the Bulletin understands that Murray has come to the island to mix ‘business with pleasure’ and had planned to do some training with Rafael Nadal and his coach as they both get ready for Rio.
But Nadal apparently cancelled due to his wrist injury and there are still doubts over whether he will be fully fit to play; he may opt out of the singles for the doubles.
The Murray family has apparently rented a secluded villa for two weeks. After their break on the island, he will head out to Rio next week, leaving the family at home but having given his body some vital time to recover for the final stage of the season with some major tournaments still to play, never mind the chance to go for Olympic Gold.
