In addition to protests against the staging of bullfights, there are regular complaints that children under the age of 16 are admitted to the arenas when they shouldn't be.
In February, the Mallorca Sense Sang (Majorca Without Blood) campaign group against bullfighting demanded that the town halls in Alcudia and Muro issue penalties against promoters of bullfights in the two towns at which minors were admitted last year. Its demands coincided with its praise for Palma in having fined the promoter of the Palma bullfight for exactly this reason.
Alcudia's mayor, Antoni Mir, strongly denies that the town hall didn't fine the promoter, saying that a 1,000 euros fine was issued and that this fine will increase if there is a repetition. To try and ensure that children do not enter the arena when the bullfight is held on Sunday, the promoter, with town hall permission, has created a facility for children at the bullring, which will allow their parents to enter the arena while they are being looked after.
