A major operation by National Police on Thursday in Son Banya (Palma) led to the arrests of six members of two drugs gangs; they appeared in court today. The operation, dubbed "Operation Slam", started at 9.30 in the morning and involved seventy officers from various units in support of the drugs squad, which had targeted the El Raúl and Eduvigis gangs. Both have engaged in the sale of drugs around the clock, the former specialising in cocaine and the latter in heroin.
In addition to the six people detained, officers seized 50,000 euros cash, 600 grams of cocaine, 350 grams of hash, ten grams of rock heroin, four vehicles, mobiles and other electronic devices.
The police had established that there were was one point of sale that was highly active 24 hours a day, which was controlled by one member of the El Raúl clan. This was for the pushing of cocaine, while there was a second for hash at the home of the gang's head. It was further established that there were two hideouts in Son Banya controlled by four gang members.
With the Eduvigis gang, heroin was available around the clock at a property used for the sale and storage of the drug. A Paraguayan, the seller of the drug from an annexe room at the property, has been identified as the head of this gang. He was already facing a deportation order. His daughter was also found at the property.
