The Ciutat de s’Arenal residents’ association today lodged an official complaint about the activity of some of the bars along Playa de Palma. According to the association, an increasing number of bars are competing for business by offering happy hours, free bar and a T-shirt for just 23 euros which is leading to a spike in the level of alcohol abuse and a rise in the number of incidents involving anti-social behaviour.
The complaint comes after the mayor of Palma, José Hila, and the minister for tourism, Vice-President Biel Barceló visited the resort last weekend to see for themselves what the problems are this season.
The association says that flyers are being handed out advertising the parties and also similar deals on the party boats. There is also concern about the large-scale parties which are being organised in public places, such as the one which was closed down by the police last weekend after widespread complaints from the local community.
