The Guardia Civil is reported to have received at least a hundred complaints about road closures and traffic delays caused by today's Mallorca 312 cycling event in which over 4,000 cyclists took part. Some sixty roads in various parts of the island - the Tramuntana, parts of the Raiguer region, the north and north-east - have been closed for differing lengths of time. In some instances, the closures were for several hours.

Although there was a good deal of advance notice, drivers were clearly caught out by the closures, with the areas most affected having included Alcudia, Playa de Muro, Valldemossa and the Santa Maria road.

Next Saturday's Ironman triathlon - based in Alcudia - will mean that some roads that have been closed today will also be closed then.
