The sale of homes in the Balearics skyrocketed by 33% in February by comparison with the same month is 2015. A total of 1,118 properties were registered as sold. This represented sales of 124 per 100,000 inhabitants, the second highest ratio (by population) in the country, beaten only by Valencia with 133.
This increase contrasts with a nationwide increase of almost 16% (a total of 34,771 sales), which made this February the best for three years. After a nationwide fall of 3% in January, there has been a return to the previous trend of sixteen consecutive months when there was inter-annual growth.
The market for used homes was principally responsible for the February sales growth. There was an increase of 22% in transactions involving used homes - a total of 26,941.
Of other regions of the country, Andalusia was where there were the most actual sales - 6,476 - followed by Catalonia (5,304), Madrid (5,275) and Valencia (5,212). Activity was at its lowest in La Rioja, Navarre and Cantabria. Though the Balearics' rate of growth per population was at 33%, the regions were there were the highest overall percentage rises were the Basque Country (50%), Asturias (40%) and - despite the comparatively low level of activity - Cantabria (39%).
