More than 500 people gathered in the small square and adjoining streets in Son Servera yesterday to hold five minutes of silence in tribute to nineteen-year-old Victoria Sard, whose murder was reported on Friday.
The town's mayor, Natalia Troya, was joined by representatives of neighbouring municipalities - Capdepera, Sant Llorenç, Arta - as well as by the regional government minister, Catalina Cladera.
The 22-year-old boyfriend of Victoria, Carlos Villegas, who apparently confessed to the crime at Arta's Guardia Civil headquarters - to which he had gone voluntarily with a lawyer - was yesterday ordered to be held in custody by the courts in Manacor, accused of murder.
It is understood that Villegas was sentenced to community service in September 2014 for violence against Victoria by the same courts. In addition, a restriction order had been placed on him (eight months without making contact with her). Family, neighbours and friends are said to have known that mistreatment of Victoria had continued.
