Quite cold with occasional showers this week

Coasts are set to take a bit of a pounding tomorrow.

Unsettled weather in Majorca, which produced rain including heavy hailstorms in parts on Sunday, continued in areas today, bringing occasional showers and thunder, with snow falling at 800 metres.

The outlook for the week is for quite cold weather and fairly breezy conditions: there is a yellow alert for poor coastal conditions in northern and eastern areas as well as the Tramuntana coast tomorrow. Showers are more likely on Wednesday and Thursday, with highs no more than 13 or 14C. By Sunday, though, an improvement should take place, with temperatures increasing to 17 or 18C and the warmest part of the island set to be the south-east.

The long-range forecast, as was reported last week, is for a drier and warmer spring than usual, with temperatures up to two degrees higher than have been the case according to records taken from a benchmark period 1981 to 2010.
