Magalluf photo on shortlist for top global award

Peter Dench, UK: Shortlist, Professional, Daily Life in Magalluf.

| London |

Magalluf never ceases to attract the attention of the world for whatever the reason. Peter Dench, a photojournalist who works primarily in advertising, editorial and portraiture photography and whose work has been published in a number of his own books, has been exhibited and won awards, is in line for another award with his photograph of Magalluf.

Entitled “A woman checks on the welfare of a British man slumped across a wall on Magalluf beach, Majorca” it has been shortlisted for this year’s Sony World Photography Awards 2016 in the professional category. Dench, a former winner of the World Press Photo Award for People in the News has gained global respect and a reputation for having an  “inimitable style and dry humour”.

The shortlists for its professional, open and youth competitions were revealed today.  A recordbreaking 230,103 images were submitted this year from 186 countries. The total number of entries received by the Sony World Photography Awards since its launch has now surpassed one million.

In the professional competition, photographers were invited to enter between three and ten images into any of the fourteen categories. Some 127,098 images were submitted. Judges selected up to ten photographers for the shortlist. Apart from Dench’s photograph, the rest of the shortlist is very impressive. A picture is certainly worth a 1,000 words.
