The La Gola visitors' centre at the La Gola park in Puerto Pollensa was officially reopened today by a delegation that included the Balearic vice-president and minister for tourism, Biel Barceló, the environment minister, Vicenç Vidal, and the mayor of Pollensa, Miquel Àngel March.
The centre, which has been closed for getting on for three years, has come back to life after a new agreement for its management and for the maintenance of the park between the town hall and the environment ministry. Originally opened in 2010 as part of the investment in the park that was in the order of some 800,000 euros, the centre should have been pioneering in terms of birdwatching tourism. Minister Vidal suggested that this original intention would now be met.
Biel Barceló said: "This is tourism which is respectful of the environment and which encapsulates ministry plans for diversification in tackling the seasonality of tourism."
