Today was a significant day for the 2016 holiday season when the first flight of British package holidaymakers and visitors, coming on organised short breaks to Palma, landed at Palma airport from Manchester courtesy of Jet2holidays. The arrival of the full flight was not only welcomed by Jet2 but also by the Majorcan Hoteiiers Federation and the commercial sector in Palma.
Sources from the federation said that today really was a momentous day because it was the first time ever that British holidaymakers have come to Palma on organised city-break weekends, while they also welcomed the early start to the season on behalf of Jet2 with clients either staying in Palma or travelling further afield to Puerto Pollensa.
And with the sun shining, all of the passengers were eager to board their transport, some of them enjoying complimentary VIP transfers for being Jet2’s first clients to Majorca of the year and to get to their destinations and enjoy Majorca and some of the tips recommended in a special winter tourism guide published in the Daily Bulletin for their benefit today.
Department store El Corte Inglés, which also helped to welcome the visitors to Palma, said that the emergence of an organised British weekend and short-break market to the capital is very positive and good news for trade. With the strong pound, tax-free shopping, sources for the department store said the British have become very important clients for Palma’s retail sector because they are saving around 20 per cent. This summer, Jet2 will be operating over 80 flights to Palma per week.
