The Pollensa Hoteliers Association, which until now has maintained a silence over the work on the semi-pedestrianisation in Puerto Pollensa, is to meet the company responsible for the work at the town hall today. It is asking that work which has currently been undertaken in demolishing existing pavement is completed and that no other work is started, but is rather delayed until next winter.
The association has been concerned about the delays to the work and also about the scheduling. The project, the town hall now seems to be saying, won't be finished until June, whereas there was an initial finish time of 9 May, which was itself extended to 24 May because work will be suspended for two weeks over Easter.
It is precisely because of Easter, an earlier start to the season and the anticipation of greater numbers of early-season tourists that the association wants part of the project put off until the winter. It considers that it would be "irresponsible" for further demolition work to now start and it has the backing of the local residents' association and businesses which deal in holiday homes in calling for a postponement of work.
