Sa Pobla, the main centre for Sant Antoni Eve celebrations, was under tight security because of the Level 4 anti-terrorist alert and because of the sheer volume of people expected to flood into the Plaça Major. A limit of 15,000 people was applied for the square, and entrances had to be closed at times.
The church was packed for the traditional Compline service and the cry of "Visca Sant Antoni. Following this came the dances of the demons and of the caparrot bigheads before the square was lit up by the pyromusical spectacular. Financial aid had been sought from local businesses for this, and the display took as its theme the financial problems that are bedevilling the town hall.
