The continuing good weather held yet more of a surprise yesterday. In Puerto Pollensa, despite the westerly and southwesterly winds, the temperature rose to 25 degrees, some ten degrees warmer than normal for the time of year.
While there might not be a repeat of such a high value, the general outlook is for warm weather, with highs of up to twenty degrees. Meanwhile, however, there is now serious concern about the lack of rain. December, says the Aemet meteorological agency, was the driest since records began in 1944. The lack of rain has greatly reduced the capacities of the two giant reservoirs in the Tramuntana mountains that supply Palma, while the water levels in aquifers are also greatly reduced.
