Pedestrianisation work halted, claims ex-Pollensa mayor

| Puerto Pollensa |

The former mayor of Pollensa, Tomeu Cifre, is claiming that work on the semi-pedestrianisation scheme for Puerto Pollensa has stopped because the company to which the work has been subcontracted has not been paid. "Today (Friday) no one is working."

The other Tomeu Cifre, the current councillor for urban planning, says he has no knowledge of non-payment and that yesterday there wouldn't have been anyone working.

He accepts that work is, however, progressing somewhat slowly, attributing this to the festive season and the absence of an engineer. He expects work to pick up after the holidays, adding that the town hall "is the first to press the company to get on with the work more quickly".

The work currently being undertaken involves the pavements from Llenaire into the port as far as the yacht club roundabout and is due to be completed by April.
