Albert Ferrer's short stint as coach of Real Mallorca has come to an end. Following three hours of discussions with owner Utz Claassen and sporting director Miguel Angel Nadal yesterday evening, Ferrer was dismissed, three wins in fifteen matches this season in Liga Segunda sealing his fate along with, it is understood, an unwillingness to make changes that Claassen was wanting. The German president had been vocal in calling for a more attacking style from a team that has managed only nine goals this season and which is currently twentieth (out of 22) in Spain's second division.
The team will be in the temporary charge of Pepe Gálvez, a former Mallorca player and part of Ferrer's coaching team. Assisted by Alfonso Pérez, Gálvez joins the list of coaches Mallorca has had since being relegated from La Liga. Now in the third season in the second flight, he has been preceded by seven others. It is believed that Gálvez will be given three games, starting with Albacete at home on Sunday, to show if he can be put in permanent charge.
Claassen had hoped that Ferrer would prove to be the one to bring stability, but he has been unable to, defeat away at Alaves on Saturday having been the final straw.
