The Spanish business magazine, Capital, has awarded Meliá Hotels International the prize for “Greatest Commitment to Innovation” in recognition of the transformation of its Sol Hotels brand. The award acknowledges the contribution made to the renewal of Spain’s holiday sector through products that have been differentiated for and adapted to current demand and which add value to the experience of customers while also increasing their satisfaction.
Meliá’s CEO, Gabriel Escarrer, in receiving the prize, said that “this award recognises the reinvention and repositioning of our leading holiday hotel brand, Sol Hotels, which has demonstrated that the maligned ‘sun and beach’ remains both good and necessary”. He added, however, that this model was “not enough” in advocating its being further added to by product, service and client experience innovation in order to “maintain it as a sector leader at an international level”.
The hotel chain has retained its strong position through its commitment to a new holidaying model, typified by the Calvia Beach project for the regeneration of an outdated resort, namely Magalluf, which has been the flagship for this transformation.
Accordingly, the four concepts under the Sol brand are Sol Hotels, Sol Beach House, Sol House and Sol Katmandu Park & Resort, which provide different experiences for the distinct needs of an increasingly segmented tourist market.
