One killed and seven others injured in multiple accidents across Majorca

Friday night proved to be tragically fatal on Majorca’s roads. One person was killed and seven others were injured in a spate of accidents.

The 061 emergency service, firefighters and police had to respond to four different accidents, the worst, and the first, occurring at 10.05pm in Can Picafort. A several-vehicle accident happened at the Can Picafort roundabout resulting in the death of a 21-year-old. Two others, aged 25 and 31 respectively, were rushed to Muro and Son Espases Hospitals suffering from multiple injuries.

Two hours later, at midnight, the 061 service was called out an accident in Cala Fornells where a motorcyclist was injured after coming off his bike. No other vehicle was involved in the incident however. But the motorcyclist had suffered serious head injuries and was rushed into intensive care at Son Espases Hospital. Then, just ten minutes later, 061 units rushed to the scene of an accident along the Llucmajor to S’Estanyol road where a vehicle had spun off the road. The vehicle, according to 061 sources, suffered serious damage, but the driver escaped with just minor injuries and was taken to the Clinica Juaneda.

Finally, at 6.30am, the emergency and security services responded to an accident along the Palma to Andratx motorway. The accident near the Son Oliva bridge, involved a number of vehicles. Two women, aged 30 and 37 respectively, were taken to Palmaplanas suffering from minor injuries while a 36-year-old woman was rushed to Son Espases in a serious condition.

Guardia Civil traffic department sources said that, over the coming weeks, in the run-up to Christmas, road safety is going to be significantly stepped up.
