The fourth edition of the Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival officially opens in Palma tonight with a cocktail party and the screening of the British film Blood Orange at the Teatre Principal.

Every year the festival is bigger and better and branches out offering new and exciting events apart from screenings of feature films, documentaries and short films from across the globe. This year, the festival, which will be screening films at Es Baluard and CineCiutat, boasts a programme of eleven feature films, 31 short films, nine documentaries, 15 music videos, three experimental art films and six films for children. The festival strives to screen provocative and socially relevant story-telling while taking its audience on an adventure around the world through 19 different countries.

And this year, the festival is not just offering a feast for the eyes and ears, but also for the palate. Tomorrow evening at the San Joan food market opposite CineCiutat, Michelin-star British chef Marc Fosh will be presenting some very special show cooking. The theme of the evening, which begins at 7pm, and continues until 8.30pm, is "our favourite movie dishes". "It’s certainly something I’ve never done before, it’s going to be a challenge but it’s also going to be great fun. I think it’s a great idea and I am sure will appeal to lots of film and food buffs at the same time," Marc said.

The festival continues until Sunday evening when the award ceremony and the after-show party will be held inside the San Joan food market.
