It has been an issue that has dragged on for years, and now Pollensa town hall will have to find a further one million euros to pay for the expropriation of land by the Guillem Cifre cultural centre that it had hoped would only cost some 1.3 million. That was before a judge sided with the owners and a current valuation of 2.3 million.
This land was included in the town's urban plan of 1991, under which various green areas were planned that were to have been paid for from licences and taxes for new developments in the municipality. Unfortunately, for the town hall and everyone else, the land was not expropriated because the revenues anticipated from these developments were not as great as had been hoped, and so it has been left in a state ever since. Council budgets had finally included amounts to complete the sale, but these will now have to go up, thanks to the judge's intervention.
