The rate of risk of poverty and social exclusion has fallen more in the Balearics than any other region of Spain, according to the report into the state of poverty and social exclusion from 2009 to 2014 by the European Network for the Fight Against Poverty. The rate was 23.8% in 2014, which is the lowest for five years and that corresponds to 262,619 people. The fall in the rate from 2013 was by four percentage points, the 27.8% of that year having been the highest it has been.
The trend in the Balearics contrasts with the state average, which in 2014 reached its highest level since the start of the economic crisis. The Balearics is in fact one of a minority of regions in the country where the poverty risk has declined.
