Young Palma entrepreneur, Marc Iván Gritti, has won first prize for the best technology innovation at the YUZZ Centre in Palma, which promotes new ideas in the field of technology and communications. The Santander International Entrepreneurship Centre announced that he had been chosen because of his mobile app, named Plaiout, which is designed to promote Palma through the use of games and to also help in promoting small businesses.

The prize is a visit to Silicon Valley from 29 October to 4 November, and he will travel with 42 other young entrepreneurs from across the country to learn about the largest centre of entrepreneurship and innovation in the world, visiting companies of such stature as Google, Linkedin, Facebook and Hewlett-Packard as well as the universities of Berkeley and Stanford.

Mayor José Hila, thanking the support of Banco Santander, the university and trainers and technicians at PalmaActiva (of which YUZZ is a part), stressed the importance of the YUZZ project as an example of public and private-sector collaboration. He also said that all the contestants were winners in that they had undergone invaluable training and had reached the final competition. “I hope that your projects become a reality. I hope this because Palma needs you to pursue your business ideas and to make them a success. We need entrepreneurs and we need jobs.”
