The Balearic High Court has ruled that owners of three plots in the El Vilar urbanisation in Pollensa are not entitled to the level of compensation they had been seeking for the halting of development that resulted from the passing of the 2008 law on measures for sustainable land development in the Balearics. The compensation sought was 1,362,000 euros, of which only a tenth is likely to be paid that relates to work that had been carried out prior to the suspension of the development.
The compensation claim, made against the regional government, has been applauded by the mayor of Pollensa, Miquel Angel March, and his political grouping, Junts Avançam. "Sanity" has prevailed, it says, and fortunately the court has exercised it in this instance.
The owners have the right to appeal to the Supreme Court.
