Majorca-based Meliá Hotels International, the largest hotel company in Spain, has moved up three places to number 17 in the latest ranking (for 2014) of the world’s leading hotel chains that is compiled by the American magazine Hotels, which is considered to be something of a “bible” for the global hotel industry.
Meliá, the third largest European hotel concern behind the UK’s IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) and France’s AccorHotels, finds itself in a world top twenty that is otherwise dominated by American and Chinese hotel groups. Hilton Worldwide is ranked number one overall, the scoring being based on the number of rooms.
