The Consortium for Insurance Compensation is to allocate between eleven and thirteen millions euros to compensate those affected by over 3,000 incidents caused by flooding that followed torrential rain on 3 and 9 September in the Balearics and the south-east of the mainland.

Approximately half of this will go to Andalusia and to claims primarily in Almeria, Malaga and Granada. The allocation for the Balearics is one million euros, there having been 290 claims. A similar amount will go to Murcia, while Valencia will require between three and four million euros for some 1,200 claims.

According to the consortium, Ibiza was initially the hardest hit by the storms and floods, but the majority of claims have come from Majorca, with 198 in all, mainly in Palma and Calvia.

It says that the number of claims are in fact significantly lower than when there was torrential rain and flooding in September 2012. Then, there were more than 32,000 claims and more than 210 million euros were paid out.
