Margalida Duran, the Partido Popular’s spokesperson in Palma, is calling for an extraordinary council meeting at which she will press for greater political will in applying civic ordinance in Playa de Palma.
Among measures she would like to be seen introduced are a mobile office for the police to inform tourists about drinking in the streets, the collection of rubbish, improved control of illegal selling and a comprehensive plan for cleanliness.
Duran says that the ordinance against anti-social behaviour introduced last year is not being complied with and that there has indeed been a worsening of the situation with regard to the presence of three-cup tricksters, prostitutes and illegal sellers as well as to drinking. She does, though, accept that these have all been problems for many years.
