SAMU, which is the Balearic emergency ambulance service, was involved in 41,979 cases of taking people to hospital or from one hospital to another during the first six months of the year. Its central call service registered a total of 219,111 emergency calls over the same period.
This information was given when the minister for health, Patricia Gómez, went to the SAMU facilities in order to introduce the new director of the service, Antoni Bellver, and to hear directly from professionals who work for it about their needs. During her visit, Gómez stressed the qualifications of the professionals working for the 24-hour service and the response it gives with high levels of co-ordination.
