Majorca can look forward to another month of tourism records at the airport, for hotel occupancy, profits and tourist spend.
Acccording to their respective hotelier associations, the main resorts - Playa de Palma, Alcudia-Can Picafort, Palmanova-Magalluf, Capdepera, Cala Millor, Paguera and Santa Ponsa - are anticipating that forecasts will be surpassed, primarily because of a boom in last-minute sales.
Inma Benito, the president of the Majorcan hoteliers federation, says that September is looking very good, withforecasts of 75% occupancy that were made earlier in the season set to be beaten. Tourist spend, she adds, has risen by 9% this summer, and it can be expected that this trend will continue in September.
Reports from the individual associations suggest occupancy levels as high as 90% this month (higher in some instances), which is especially good news for hoteliers as September is, in any event, a month which is typically more profitable on account of the tourist profile. "It has greater purchasing power and an average spend which is higher than in June, July and August," says Francisco Marin of the Playa de Palma hoteliers.
