The major storm which hit Majorca today has produced over 200 incidents requiring the attendance of emergency services, none of them serious. Worst affected parts of the island have been the south-west in Andratx and Calvia, but nowhere has escaped the storm, incidents having been reported in the north and east of the island as well as in the Tramuntana mountains.
The storm, which dumped almost 40 litres of rain per square metre in just ten minutes this morning, created havoc for a while at the airport, where there was flooding. On social media, there were any number of photos showing the size of hailstones - up to three centimetres in width.
At the time of reporting (20.00), rain is still falling in much of the island, there having been further stormy weather this late afternoon in the north and east. Tomorrow (Saturday) is expected to be a better day.
