A couple from Ireland on holiday in Majorca were arrested at Palma’s Son Sant Joan airport on Wednesday for having allegedly abandoned their son. The couple had been on holiday with their four children, the eldest of whom is 17 and is mentally disabled, in Alcudia.
On Wednesday, they all went on an excursion and apparently lost the 17-year-old. Instead of raising the alarm, the parents apparently packed their bags and tried to leave the island with their three other children.
Once at the airport they reported that their son was missing to the Guardia Civil but still intended to catch their flight while the security forces began searching for their missing son. The couple were arrested on the spot and the missing son found.
Yesterday, the four children were in the care of Social Services while a judge in Inca decided what action to take with the parents.
