Proceedings against Palma terraces have fallen by a half

Proceedings started by the town hall in Palma against infractions by bar/restaurant terraces halved between June and August.

69 proceedings were opened, while 31 are being considered which may result in their being liable to sanctions. It is possible that this 100 total may rise, but it will be a long way below the 233 over the same three-month period in 2014.

The proceedings arise as a result of offences such as the excessive occupation of the public way, and the fall in their number, reckons the town hall, is due to greater awareness among owners of compliance required under bylaws. When, for example, one bar or restaurant comes under investigation, others nearby take action in order to comply with local ordinance.

It is the Patrulla Verde (Green Patrol) police service which initiates proceedings, acting on complaints from residents. The relevant town hall department then takes on the case, which can be closed without there being any consequences, or forwarded for sanction, including the removal of terrace furniture.
