Some events at yesterday's fiestas had to be called off because of the weather, but others survived. One of them was the dance of the Cossiers in Montuiri, one of seven towns in Majorca with these folk dancers.
The Cossiers have their set dances, and one of them, is the Flower of Myrtle, which with which they started the routine. Another, entitled Midnight, was revived only last year and danced once more yesterday. The first written evidence of the Montuiri Cossiers dates from the 1820s, though the tradition in the town is older.
They will be dancing again this coming Sunday evening, 23 August (from 6.30pm).
