The Balearics, Majorca in particular, is on course, as politicians and the industry have been predicting, for another record-breaking summer.
Following the record numbers of passengers for April and May, Palma airport has now set a new record for July as well: a total of 3,503,360, which represents an increase of 1.5% compared with July 2014. Of these, there was a small number who didn’t use commercial flights (only around two thousand), but otherwise, the July figure was dominated by international passengers - 2,913,277. Spanish passengers numbered slightly fewer than 600,000.
The German market, while the only one to have shrunk slightly, contributed the most travellers (1,124,249) with the British in second place (789,238). The number of flights was up fractionally to 24,466, though there was relatively a far greater increase in Spanish flights (up by almost 16%).
July adds to a cumulative result for the first seven months of the year which has seen a 2.5% increase in passenger traffic to 13,044,906 in total.
