Bars in Magalluf, Santa Ponsa and other parts of Calvia will once more be able to have music on their terraces until midnight.
At the latest council meeting, there was unanimous agreement in accepting the requests of business associations representing both the hotel and the non-hotel complementary sectors to amend the bylaw introduced last year which had brought forward to 11pm the time when music had to stop.
This bylaw had been adopted as part of ordinance on noise, vibrations and acoustic contamination, but the new deputy mayor for tourism, Antonio Garcia Moles, has acknowledged that amendment to the bylaw was needed in order that it was in line with “the economic and social reality of the municipality”.
The town hall administration recognises the “tourism character” of the town and also the difficulties in harmonising the rights of residents to rest and health with activities that contribute to the town’s principal economic sector.
Accordingly, music and PA systems on bar, hotel and other terraces will be able to operate from 9am to midnight from Monday to Friday and from 10am at weekends and public holidays.
