The Balearic president, Francina Armengol, yesterday praised the “significant gesture” by King Felipe to receive leading politicians at the Marivent Palace and stressed the “respect” that the King had shown regarding the “decision” of the Balearic Government that the public should be able to use the palace gardens: something which the Royal Household is considering.
For the first time in her political career, Armengol went to the Marivent for an audience with the monarch, and after the meeting she stressed the openness that the King has shown in creating dialogue with presidents of Spanish regions.
This was, she noted, quite different to the attitude of the Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, who has not.
Armengol was referring to the fact that while the King received regional presidents at the Zarzuela Palace last week, Rajoy has yet to respond to her request for a meeting.
